Researcher Reststreams
WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU!
Researcher Reststreams
Location: Leiden (office) and Schipluiden (farm) and working from home - Netherlands
Type: Full-time
ABOUT RESPECTFARMS
RespectFarms is a start-up in the cellular agriculture industry, located in the Netherlands. With a long history in cultivated meat, our vision is to sustainably transform our food system by integrating the best out of the conventional and the cellular agriculture industry. We, therefore, see ourselves as system integrator. We will optimize, productize and commercialize the first cultivated meat farm by 2030, with 1000 more farms to come by 2038.
Our approach focuses decentralized (scale-out) production, modular bioprocess systems, farmer-operated facilities, automation-first design, and practical deployment in real agricultural environments.
We aim to redesign the meat supply chain so that farmers stay economically relevant, food production becomes more sustainable and meat production happens closer to consumers.
We are looking for a Researcher Reststreams with both UPS and DSP bioreactor proces experience who is passionate about food innovation and eager to contribute to the future of cultivated meat by looking into waste streams from the cultivated meat process itself and researching its use.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and talented Researcher Reststreams to join our team. The successful candidate will look into waste streams from the cultivated meat process itself and research its recyclability and use. Examples in spent media are ammonia and lactate. Techniques to remove and/or isolate and reuse components from spent media will be researched. Unlike centralized biotech factories, with RespectFarms farmers become operators of advanced cellular agriculture technology. This requires practical engineering, user-friendly operation, and automation-driven process design. You will work at the integration of animal cell culture, cell culture media development, bioprocess engineering, automation, and agricultural operations.
In the role of Researcher Reststreams, you will spend a large proportion of your time handson developing and optimizing cost effective circular processes for waste streams from the cultivated meat process itself. You will setup methods for the removal and/or isolation of components from the spent media and write robust SOPs , while working closely together with a small team setting up the mammalian cell culture process from lab to modular farming level.
YOUR PROFILE
We are looking for a Researcher Reststreams to look into waste streams from the cultivated meat process itself and research, develop and optimize the use of the waste streams coming out of the cell culture process. This is fundamental in obtaining a cost effective and circular process for our pilot farm. Part of your role is making this plan a reality, scaling out our technology to the world!

- BSc with 2-5 years of experience, MSc with 0-2 years of experience in Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, (Bio)Chemical Engineering, or related field
- Strong knowledge of cell metabolism and nutrient requirements is must have
- Strong experience with animal cell culture is required
- Experience with isolation/separation methods like ion exchange, dialysis, filtration is nice to have
- Experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, metabolomics, or biochemical assays is good to have
- Understanding of bioreactor fed-batch and perfusion processes is good to have
- Ability to document experimental results and prepare technical reports, SOPs, and regulatory documentation
- Food-tech or cultivated meat experience is nice to have
WHY JOIN
- Work on the first cultivated meat farm
- Build technology with real-world deployment
- Collaborate with biotech, agritech, and farming partners
- Help shape a new production model for sustainable protein
- Contribute to decentralized food production systems
