Researching the cultivated meat farm from every angle
Turning cultivated meat into a real opportunity for farmers requires more than technology. It means understanding how production can work on a farm, how it fits into existing agricultural businesses, what farmers need to make the transition, and how knowledge can be shared with the wider farming community.
At RespectFarms, our research projects address these questions from different perspectives, ranging from technology and farm integration to farmer engagement, business models and knowledge sharing. Together, they contribute to the development and validation of cultivated meat production at farm scale.

CRAFT
Building and validating cultivated meat production on the farm
CRAFT, Cellular Revolution in Agriculture and Farming Technology, brings cultivated meat out of the laboratory and into a real farming environment.
The project integrates cultivated meat production directly into a farm and generates technical, environmental, economic and social evidence under real-world conditions.
For RespectFarms, CRAFT is where many parts of the concept come together: farmer engagement, demonstration-farm design, system integration, farm-scale production and the development of a model that can ultimately be replicated beyond a single farm

FEASTS
Understanding what farmers need from the cellular agriculture transition
FEASTS explores the future role of cultivated meat and seafood in our food system. Within the project, RespectFarms focuses specifically on farmers and the agricultural sector: understanding existing farm business models, identifying the opportunities and barriers associated with cellular agriculture, engaging farmers directly, and translating those insights into practical guidance.
An important outcome of this work is the Cultivated Meat Farm Blueprint, a practical and accessible resource designed to help farmers, policymakers and other stakeholders understand what setting up cultivated meat production on a farm could involve.

EIP
Exploring the protein transition on a working Dutch farm
The EIP project“Eiwittransitie op de boerderij” focuses on integrating and testing cultivated meat production in the agricultural context of the demonstration farm in Schipluiden.
It combines practical farm integration with research into what livestock farmers need when considering a possible transition towards cultivated meat production.
The project also brings local stakeholders into the process and supports knowledge sharing around what this new form of food production could mean for farmers and their communities.

Province of South Holland
Turning the demonstration farm into a place for learning and exchange
With support connected to the Province of South Holland, the demonstration farm in Schipluiden is also being developed as a place for knowledge exchange and information for the agricultural sector.
The location brings research, development, education and engagement together around the transition from animal-based towards cell-based meat production.
The project supports activities that allow farmers and other agricultural stakeholders to encounter the technology directly through visits, workshops, seminars and knowledge-sharing activities at the farm.

Ministry of LVVN
Researching whether cultivated meat can scale to farm-level production
The LVVN-related work focuses on industrial research and the feasibility of the demonstration farm, including a larger experimental production unit intended to test production at a more representative farm scale.
This next research step is designed to help determine whether the concept can move beyond small-scale testing towards larger farm-based production, while keeping the farm itself as a place for experimentation, learning and engagement with the agricultural sector.
